Article VIII · A duty
Of the Floor
Against the Fourth Danger: the fate of the Abandoned.
- Displacement is not a personal failure. No one shall be blamed for work the machines have taken.
- Those who profit most from the machines owe the most to those they displace.
- Employers, owners and governments shall build the floor before they take away the ground: warning before the change, a living through it, and a way to learn what comes next. Where an employer cannot, the floor shall be held in common.
- Those who are displaced shall have learning fitted to what comes next, at no cost to them. Article V keeps learning open to all; this Article carries those in transition.
- Each of us shall learn what we can, as we can, and no one shall be shamed for what they cannot.
- We will build communities that catch those who fall.
By these signs it is kept
- Those whose work is taken by machines get warning, a living and a path forward, whoever employed them.
- Learning to adapt is free for those who need it.
- Those who are displaced are counted, heard and helped, not forgotten.
