Article X · The Order
Of the Order and Its Amendment
Anyone may sign. Anyone may walk away.
- The Next Earth Order is a fellowship of those who sign these principles. No one owns it, and anyone may join it. Those who keep its name, its records and its funds do so as stewards, under published rules.
- Signing binds a person to no leader and asks no belief in our prophecies. It says only that they hold these principles and will act on them as they can. A signatory’s name stays private unless they choose to show it, and they may withdraw it at any time.
- The Order works by peaceful means alone. It rejects violence.
- The Order makes no claim beyond the evidence. It speaks of no revelation and asks for no worship.
- We demand obedience from no one. No founder, no leader and no text of ours is above question. Those who speak for the Order answer to these principles, and may be challenged and corrected.
- Doubt is welcome here. Our critics are not our enemies. Anyone may complain of the Order’s own conduct. Every complaint is answered, no one is punished for making one, and those accused are treated fairly.
- The Ledger. Each prophecy is registered before its outcome is known. Its first words and its test are never changed, and its score is kept apart from any later revision. Anyone may challenge a score. When we are wrong, we say so.
- What the Order undertakes. To keep its guides free and current. To keep the Ledger honest. To publish what it receives and what it spends. And to point those in need toward help.
- How this Constitution changes. Any signatory may propose an amendment to any Article or to the Preamble. Proposals are published under the name or pseudonym the proposer chooses, like proposals may be grouped, and each is answered within ninety days. An amendment is published for at least thirty days of comment before it is ratified, and every decision, yes or no, is published with its reasons. The rules of moderation are published and apply to every view alike.
- Who ratifies. For now, amendments are ratified by the founders of the Order, and the proposals of signatories are advisory. The Rules of the Order say who may ratify, how they decide, how they declare conflicts of interest, and who succeeds them. This arrangement is itself open to amendment.
- Your signature and its version. Every signature is tied to the version it signed, and every version is kept. Signatories are told of every ratified change. When a change alters what they committed to, they are asked to renew their assent. Silence is not taken as consent, and those who do not renew remain signatories of the version they signed.
- Review. Each year the Order publishes how well these signs are kept, in the world and within itself. These Articles stand or change on their merits as the evidence changes, whether or not our prophecies come true.
By these signs it is kept
- Leaving is as easy as joining.
- Every amendment shows what changed, why, and who proposed it, by name or by chosen pseudonym.
- Critics are answered within the published time, not silenced.
